The Beautiful Biggera Waters
Biggera Waters is a residential suburb with
some waterway estates, 5 km north of Southport in Gold Coast. The Suburb
located beside the Broadwater and the southern end of South Stradbroke Island.
Biggera Waters took its name from the word Yugambeh which means, the Eucalyptus
siderophloia, the red ironbark tree. It also shares its name with the Biggera
Creek, a short watercourse with headwaters behind the Labrador. Before being
urbanized or growing as a residential landscape, the area was recognized as
Anglers Paradise, which is nowadays a part of the connecting Suburb of Runaway
Bay.
After the arrival of European immigrants in
the late nineteenth century, Biggera Waters was sectioned with many
agricultural and fishing peoples making their homes here.
By 1888, there were enough new immigrants
to hall the Southport Divisional Board that it was needed to build a bridge
over the Biggera Creek.
Ordinary shopping is available at Biggera
Waters Shopping Centre that is located at the corner of the Gold Coast Highway
and Hollywell Road. The distance to Broadwater foreshore is not more than a
stroll. The Broadwater stretch starts from Southport in North, passing through
Labrador, Biggera Waters, Runaway Bay, Hollywell, Anglers Paradise and Paradise
Point. Runaway Bay Shopping Centre is just at a 2-3 km north.
Whereas with about 60 factory outlets, Harbour Town, inhabits the past times drive-in picture theatre spot. Later in 2007, Biggera Waters Shopping Centre got a new name “Metro Market” with a major $2 million investment.
The Suburb is
surrounded by many other fantastic shopping centres, comprising Australia Fair
in Southport. Also, a number of dining options are available within the
Shopping Centre and alongside the Broadwater.
Biggera Waters has a variety of
accommodations, placed along the beachfront and at a short walking space from
the Broadwater. A number of attractions can be enjoyed, including the water
sports on the Broadwater waters. The most famous theme parks of Gold Coast’s
including Dream World, Sea World and Warner Brothers Movie World are located at
a very short drive from Biggera Waters apartments.
An amazing waterfront boardwalk is located
beside the Broadwater starting from Biggera Waters in the North that continues
to Southport in the South. Attractive grassland and many parks can also be seen
along the boardwalk that is ideal for relaxing, walking and cycling.
Biggera Waters is definitely a harbour for
water adventure lovers with an imaginary range of water sports and events to
enjoy in the local area. Rent a boat and notice the excellent local fishing
spots, try jet-ski or board on a snorkelling voyage in the crystal waters that
surround Wave break Island or delight in refreshing dips in the sparkling
Broadwater.
